Holy cow, have we been sick!! I'm not kidding; this family has never been this sick - ever!
Greg laughed that I wanted to post this, because I really only seem to update pictures here, but I couldn't resist because we've had just so darn crazy a time here recently.
It all started roughly 2 weeks ago, when Greg was feeling a little run down. This usually happens at the end of January, because he's been going a million miles a minute with the shutdowns at work. Then things begin to wind down and he gets sick. It's a no-brainer, happens every year, so we didn't think too much of it. Then all he%$ breaks loose. All of a sudden he's vomiting, his head is pounding, he's achey all over, gets the sweats, then the chills; it's the flu. For Greg, when he gets sick, he just cocoons up in bed for 1 or 2 days solid and he wakes up fresh as a daisy. Not so the case this time. Then Benjamin decides he wants to contribute and starts getting a cold (which later took a temporary back seat to a very high fever). As a rule, if the boys are sick I usually don't get sick until they've finished with their illnesses (someone has to hold the fort down, right?). But this time, as a joke on me, I got sick right in the middle of things. Ben had a very slight attack of diahreah and I thought, oh no, here we go, but it only happened once (yay!). Anyway, by day 4, I had to take Greg to emergency because he was crawling the walls with a headache that wouldn't quit and he'd almost eaten an entire bottle of Advil which didn't help. So there we go, Greg huddled in a ball holding his head, me feeling like about 4 sacks of poop, and very nauseaus, driving off to Peace Arch Hospital (who wants to get near Surrey Memorial Emerg???) with Benjamin at home with my mom. We spent 4 hours there with Greg hooked up to an IV bag waiting for the medication to kick in. It didn't. We came back home with a prescription and a headache. Glad we wasted the 4 hours! Now I was crashing at a very steady pace, thank god Ben was sleeping!
Anyway, things went from bad to worse for Benjamin, as he spiked a fever which lasted for 3 days. It was pretty scarey. I can take runny bum, vomiting, anything like that doesn't bother me at all, but a fever really scares me. I took him to the clinic on day 3 to be told that it was a virus, to let it run it's course and keep fighting it with Tylenol. I knew that, but I felt better when the doctor confirmed it for me. Greg's headache did finally subside but it sure took a long time.
Like I said, we are almost at week 2 and we still feel like death warmed over. It's definately better than it was, but it's just taking forever to feel normal again. I'm still light-headed and feel pretty weak, Benjamin now has a full-on cold and Greg just mentioned to me that today he feels a little like Andy Griffiths, putting his hand into that box of Bits 'n Bites and coming out with a "whole new ballgame" ......*sigh*.......ya gotta love flu season!
I felt bad about 2 things while we were sick: 1) I didn't get a chance to call my sis-in-law to see how she was doing after her laser eye surgery; I just wasn't up to any conversation, and frankly, I still don't feel really up to it, and 2) I had to bail on taking my other sis-in-law to the airport. But we were just too sick, and as far as the airport went, that particular day Ben's fever spiked to its highest. Oh well, sh*& happens when you're sick, doesn't it?
Yesterday we were determined to get some fresh air and enjoy that sunshine, so we had Benjamin out for 2 walks as well as a trip to see the animals at the local SPCA. Benjamin didn't like it so much with the dogs constantly barking and Greg wasn't impressed with the smell of the cat room. I used to volunteer there, so I was immune to it all. Plus the fact that I haven't regained my ability to smell/taste quite yet, so I could have stayed all day! Ha Ha!
Now that I feel slightly closer to human, here are some more photos.
Enjoy - and get that flu shot!
Happy Birthday to Daddy!
Ben's pal Riley enjoying the firetruck.
Benjamin and Grammy doin' the play-do......it's never far away!
Taking an energy break from biking.
Is Ben going to be an architect?
Or an artist (that's a happy face, which looks remarkably like Greg's face during the headache! See the squished up eyes)?
